The shims can be resized smaller with a bit of glass and fine wet and dry - if you want or buy new shims as needed they are not so expensive - some places will do exchange. The Pantah has created a Duke that is far from boring. You can pick up a a little newer for the same money and get a much nicer motorcycle. First shown December , the Pantah came on the market as the SL and the last of the line, the SL, was sold in It's a good job the engine is so smooth and willing, since full use of the revs is demanded by the tall gear ratios.

I have no idea what older ducatis are selling for. Anyone have some knowledge about the old ducs? Voltaire , Dec 31, Jun 4, Oddometer: The later belt drive motors are all based on this engine up to the I don't know about investment, but better than getting 4.

DesmoDog , Jan 1, Jun 25, Oddometer: Voltaire , Jan 1, I've still got a Darmah I bought in Oz in , give you the bevel riding experience for less money than an SS Engine work can be expensive I'm told. Darmah for sale here. Riding position is pretty good for a sports bike. Sep 26, Oddometer: I ride a Cagiva elefant - these days but also had a pantah engined bike back in the 80s alongside the bevel I actually prefer to remove the heads every now and again its how i was shown many years ago with my earlier bikes but not just to do the valves they can be done in situ in an hour or two.

Like was said earlier you do not need a valve kit. The shims can be resized smaller with a bit of glass and fine wet and dry - if you want or buy new shims as needed they are not so expensive - some places will do exchange. A set of shim gauges helps make measuring easier http: PS i have nothing to do with the company but really rate this product.

Its also worth overhauling the clutch slave cylinder - the seals atc will be fairly perished on that age of bike all the parts are still available from ducati or http: On the engine remove the alternator rotor retaining bolt every mile and retorque it - i use a bit of threadlock on it, they are prone to coming loose and the consequences are catastophic.

Dec 25, Oddometer: The SL is much better looking than the , and the engine was much improved. Id say you cant go wrong if you like it buy it! Mar 15, Oddometer: Big John Sny , Jan 9, Jul 3, Oddometer: The valve adjustments are both easier and less time consuming than any modern "shim under bucket" valve adjustment in modern bikes. I think the fear of having to remove the valve keeper and potentially dropping a valve in the engine while changing out a closer shim.

I think both of these issues can be reduced by pulling the opener rocker, pulling the timing belt, and then setting the closers. Just push that piston to the top for whatever side you are pulling the keeper on, and no valve drop.

Rotate the cam all the way around and make sure it doesn't bind. Problem solved, and then you have a fresh timing belt tension when you put the belts back on. The belt is changed out every other valve adjust anyways. The openers are then adjusted just like any other bike, except the rocker conveniently slips out of the way for you. It is not really hard, but big consequences if you screw it up,but there can be just as bad of consequences if you get a valve on anything else too tight.
